About us

“Experience the beauty of nature, rejuvenate, and make lasting memories.”

Old Town is a modern, no-nonsense guesthouse set in one of Reykjavík’s most iconic buildings.

Built by the Salvation Army in 1916 and nicknamed Kastalinn (“The Castle”) by locals, it’s stood tall in the city’s old town for nearly a century.

We’re not about luxury. We’re about location, simplicity, and the kind of charm you can’t fake. With private rooms, shared bathrooms, no bunk-beds, self check-in, and optional breakfast, we give you everything you need - and nothing you don’t.

Some of our rooms even have a view of Hallgrímskirkja. Most importantly, every room has the city right outside the door.

The Vibe

We’re the kind of place you crash after a day hiking volcanoes or exploring Reykjavík’s art scene - not the kind of place where you spend all day working on your laptop.
But if you’re looking for a central, clean, character-rich place to sleep, recharge, and head out for your next adventure - we’ve got you covered.

The Building

Our four-story building is heritage protected - which means its classic facade will stay exactly as it is: a proud piece of Reykjavík’s architectural and social history. Inside, we’ve made thoughtful updates to fit the needs of today’s traveler.
If you’re into clean lines, creaky stairs, honest hospitality, and a little history - you’ll feel right at home here.

"Old Town Reykjavik is in the heart of old town. Check in was easy as there are codes to access the building and room. Room was quite small, but on the plus side there was a sink in the room. Plenty of toilet and shower rooms on the hallway. Bed was very comfy."

"The location was great, very close to city center. The room was very big and comfortable and the staff was nice! Also, the bathrooms and showers are shared, but still private, which is a good thing. There were enough bathrooms and showers in every floor, so we never had to wait in line."
